SteamBirds drops players into a dusty sky filled with brass contraptions and roaring engines. Each session forces you to guide a handful of aviators on a grid view and make each turn count. A few of your planes face an onslaught of enemy birdships. You must scout paths, plan flanks and dodge incoming fire.
Pilots pick models with different weapons and loadouts. One plane holds extra steam tanks and another carries a heavier cannon. Crews swap engines for more thrust or tighter handling. Quick rolls and engine bursts let you slip past gunfire or charge an opening. Hits on wings or boilers slow down speed and block gun ports. Repairs happen back at the workshop between sorties.
Players praised the game for its sharp controls and old school charm. Newcomers slide into battles fast and veterans find each mission demands thought.
