About Paint Mario

Mario Paint arrived in 1992 as a creative suite from Nintendo. It worked with a mouse add on. People drew shapes and painted scenes with simple tools. They built pictures by hand and made frame by frame animations. The focus sat on art over classic levels and bosses.

It featured a music tool using Mario symbols as notes. Players placed icons on a staff then hit play to hear songs. The package had a bug swatter mini game. Players pointed the mouse at flying insects then clicked to squash them. The color palette stayed small. Storage space ran out fast.

Nintendo sold over 2.3 million copies worldwide. Designers later added creative features from this set into WarioWare. Fans still share custom art and keep building new tools today. Gamers look back on it as a rare blend of art and fun.
