Mario Kart 64 (N64)

About Mario Kart 64 (N64)

In 1996 a new racing title hit shelves with fully three dimensional tracks and support for four drivers. Players pick from eight Mario world icons each with distinct speed and handling traits. Banana peels litter corner exits and turtle shells zip across the course. A single blue shell flies straight to the kart in first place.

Sixteen courses spread across four series present different challenges. One course cuts through deep trenches. A steep climb awaits on another path. Giant ramps propel karts into the air on several routes. Races span three laps and demand steady steering and split second timing. A timed throttle press at the starting line wins a burst of speed.

Friends gather around the screen for chaotic item battles every lap. Shells ricochet and banana rinds trigger sudden skids. Developers later reissued this title on newer platforms allowing new fans to explore each fast paced showdown.
